Not a trout

Its funny, as someone who spends so much time chasing trout its easy to not appreciate some of the other fish you catch. The me the reality is most rivers that I fish or guide in typically hold a lot of trout and not a whole lot else, but was fishing the Kinderhook creek in Columbia county NY this weekend and got into some other fish. Picked up a few of these small carp on some tiny pheasant tail nymphs, and they were just as fun to catch as some of the normal brown trout that I try to get into.

Long story short, don’t miss the forest for the trees and enjoy all of the beautiful fish that are out there.
